Meet Greer Chiropractor
Dr. Joseph Allen
“I didn’t know I was spoiled.”
I wasn’t spoiled with material things. Even though my father was a successful Doctor of Chiropractic, five children and a stay at home wife was a lot to support.
I Was Spoiled with Health
Growing up, whenever something went wrong with me, my dad would just fix it. I took it for granted. Other kids got pills and potions; I got a chiropractic adjustment. At first, either method seemed to work out about the same. My friends seemed about as healthy as I did; they just missed more days of school and had allergies.
The difference got bigger as we got older, and by the time we were in our thirties, many of my friends were acting like old men and women; by our forties even more were slowing down. That was when I actually realized how spoiled I was.
I Didn’t Think I Would Become a Doctor of Chiropractic
I didn’t automatically follow in my dads footsteps. I nearly joined the service to see the world. I worked construction and loaded trucks during my college years. The last of these jobs had me on the road for a month at a time. I got sick while in Giddings, TX. The guys on the crew told me what medicine to take, but I told them I never stayed sick more than 2-3 days. After the fifth day, I called my dad to ask why I was still sick. He simply asked if I’d gotten adjusted.I took my dad’s advice, got adjusted and was quickly back to normal. He’d talked to me before about becoming a chiropractor, but the seed was now firmly planted. My health and quick healing weren’t just luck; my dad had given them to me.
A Chiropractic Education
I attended Life University of Chiropractic in Marietta, GA and graduated in 1992. It was the perfect place for me; close to home, but not too close. Life University School of Chiropractic was the perfect home for me to learn my craft. I have referred several students to Life over the years who are now in practice. I was flattered they were inspired to follow in my footsteps like I followed in my dad’s.
On a Personal Note…
Like a lot of guys, I enjoy things that go fast or start adrenalin flowing. I’m an old motocross racer and recently finished building a race car. I am also a long time member and past president of the Rotary Club of Greater Greer where I serve as Vocational Service Chair. I volunteer my services weekly at the Taylors Free Medical Clinic and have since the doors first opened. It is a wonderful place and a model for free clinics all over the country.
I Have Been Adjusted My Whole Life
My dad adjusted me soon after I was born. People realize what the mom endures in the birth process, but seldom think about what the baby experiences. On a regular basis growing up, the whole family would get adjusted. Even though I wasn’t hurting or ill before, I felt better after. I have continued this into my adult life. I don’t wait for a symptom, I get frequent tune ups. Before you ask … no, I can’t adjust myself. I am not only a Chiropractor, but also a Chiropractic patient. I look at everything long term especially when it comes to health. I see my dentist not to have the whitest or straightest teeth, but to still be chewing with my own teeth when I’m old.
